As a child, I never passed up an opportunity to watch a glassblower work - Cedar Point, OH, Williamsburg, VA, Henry Ford Museum, Detroit, MI. Later in My childhood when my father picked up doing Stained glass as a hobby, I quickly took over his workshop. From then on My stained glass career took form, but I always wanted to make things out of molten glass, especially Marbles for the Kaleidoscopes I made. During College I spent several years working as a Chemistry Lab Technician and Teaching assistant, and got a taste of glass working making laboratory Aparatus.
In 1996, I started goofing around with Moretti Rods, making little beads and freeform stuff, but as a then store owner, I did not have too much time to spare working on projects other than my main craft. Over the next few years I steadily improved my technique, but threw most of what I made into the scrap heap. In 1999, I took some lessons with John Hamon Miller, making paperweights, the class was very frustrating as we spent almost no time making actual paperwieghts, but during one of the breaks, John made a marble. It inspired me to start making many more myself,. It was also in this year, that I moved to my new studio and upgraded my lampworking set-up. Now, when not working on Lamp or Window commissions, I am at my Torch making Beads and Marbles.
My Ebay Auctions - Ebay is pretty flooded with marbles so I only do this sporadically

How Many marbles do I really Make?
I have been keeping a work diary on and off since 1992 and I have kept track of the marbles I make since 2002 pretty reliably so I thought I would list them here. I generally keep fairly detailed records and might even be able to tell yoiu the day I made any particular marble. I thought collectors might appreciate this kind of info.
2006
I have not gone through my journals but I probably have not made more than 100 marbles, but the year is not over yet.
2005
I have not gone through my journals Yet and don't plan on it but Made less than in 2004
2004
(Anchovy - 5)(Dugg - 5)( Enamel - 18)(Experimental - 13)(Flame, Cased - 1)(Flower - 103)(Flower, Deco - 8)(Flower I/O - 18)(Jovian - 16)( Kaleidoscope - 3)(Monster Eye - 68)(Nightsky - 1)(Palantir - 6)(peewee - 3)(Tornado - 75)(Wisps - 68)(Yule - 20)(Junk - 16)total 543
Anchovy - I made only a very few
Dugg - A few trees this year
Enamel - a great style but I think I was sort of waiting for a better way of encasement
Experimental - The Palantir was one and some of the others were tornado-like or just plain wierd
Flame, cased - I love flames and could not resist the urge apparently
Flower - I spent alot of time developing my flowers this year
Flower deco - This is a bead flower technique that I applied to marbles
Flower I/O - I really love the I/O technique and spent alot of time working on it in beads and buttons
Jovians - A neat marble that increased in size somewhat, its one I like and I find it hard to believe that I only made a few of them this year
K-scope - Made a very few for the very few kaleidoscopes I made this year
Monster eye - A great marble that could have used a little more attention, especially since they were coming out so great
Palantir - inspired by LOTR...I'm a geek. I tried but I don't think I captured it
Peewee - some peltier tributes for Marble buddies
Tornado - Coming out of my wisp style a few dozen more controlled twists gets you something really interesting
Wisps - There is really alot of room for developement here still and I hope to pursue it
Yule - I have been doing yule marbles in groups of 20 for the past 4 years, somehow just this year I started to track it. Its essentially a style I do and like and do 20 of the same marble to give to family and friends. its an off shoot of what I used to do in the 90's with other glass and somewhat inspired by Drew Fritts who was extending it into the realm of Marbles
Junk? - There were some marbles I did not dump into the water bucket because I thought they had something to teach me that I kept. Looking back some seem valid where others do not. I am trying to keep an open mind on the subject
2003
(Anchovy - 43)(Dichro Twist - 83(Dichro Twist and Torsion - 36))(Dugg - 42)(Enamel - 111)(Experimental and custom - 66)(Flame - Cased - 15)(Flowers Misc small and wierd I/O - 50)(Flower - 57)(Jovian - 50)(Kaleidoscope - 20)(Medical Specimen - 3)(Monster Eye - 96)(Nightsky - 10)(Peewees, various - 130)(Sulphide, Dragonfly - 46)(Sulphide,Other - 12)(Whitecore - 16)(Wisp - 60) 910 total
Anchovy - fun marbles they continued to get larger and larger
Dichro twist - My use of dichro and heat control made the a little more intersting this year
Dugg - Most of the flowers and trees I wanted to do never met my expectations, but many turned out very interesting and the technique led me in some other intersting directions
Enamel - There is still alot of room for interesting work here, and these increased in size this year
Experimental and custom - I generally don't call my marbles experimental unless they are definitavly a bridge between somewhere I am and somewhere I am trying to get to but I did do alot of custom marbles this year. Names, and small designs
Flame, Cased - Casing the flames I had done for several years seemed to be the way to take them to the next level, but rod casing was detracing from what they really could be so I decided to wait on developing them further
Flowers misc - lots of work and experimentation, there were probably 4 times this amount of marbles that went right into the water bucket, but I learned alot about the inside out technique as well as some novel appraoches to flowers.
Flower - As with the previous I would say many ended up in the bucket but of the ones that went to completion they were many stepping stones to what my flowers came to be in the next 2 years
Jovian - sort of a cased reverse twist. They are fun to make and give me an excuse to try color combos.
Kaleidoscope - I got honest and just decided to call these what they were, nice Marbles for Kaleidoscope, mostly clear with good color and some sparkle
Medical Specimen - Crash and burn - see 2002
Monster eye - Bigger and more detail
Nightsky - I love the color, so I made a few.
Peewees, various - Small marbles are fun so I made a bunch of interesting ones , Mainly working on heat control and fiddling with equiptment and tools
Sulphides - Made a bunch as a sort of swan song into the area of sulphides, the dragonflies I liked personally so I kept a bunch.
Whitecore - The trailing end of something I lost interest in see 2002
Wisp - Developed out of some of my Dugg techniques, I began to see all of the possibilities of this style.
2002
(Anchovy - 23)(Bi-Level-38)(Bocci - 11)(Cork-29)(Dichro - 52)(Dugg - 32)(Enamel-95)(Experimental - 14)(Flames -100)(Guinea - 26)(Jcoats - 49)(Medical Specimen - 29)(Monster Eye - 83)(Nightsky - 26)(Onionskin - 41)(Patch - 16)(Peewee - 12)(Peewee, Dichro - 54)(Sulphide - 24)(Vortex Flowers- 30)(Whitecore - 21)(Wirepull - 1)797 total
Some notes about 2002 - 21 of each of the following types went into what I called my signature series, and were never sold. (except one of which went to the Marble Museum , and one was auctioned (Bilevel - Cork - Enamel - Dugg - Joseph Coat - Flame - Guinea - Onionskin)
Anchovies were my largest marble type for this year, simple, sparkley fun
BiLevels were something I made alot of in earlier years but phased them out this year
Bocci - This was an experiment for a trophy, they were bagged and put away in my unsold stock for the year
Cork - Corks a J-coats were basically the same, I had a reason for separating them but I forget now what it was
Dichro - these early ones were 4 bands and just straight corks
Enamel - I got better at doing these this year, lots of variety
Experimentals - These often led to new styles or advancement in styles
Flames were something I was doing alot of starting in 1999, this was the last year I did these smaller marbles
Guinea - I never made too many of these, everyone seems to do them
J-coats - My understanding of marble terminology was pretty bad these were essentially corks
Medical Specimen - I intended this to be a study of encasement of hard and soft form through 100 marbles, I never sold but a few of them the rest ended up in the junk box
Monster Eye - I was starting to improve my eyes in this year making them larger and began adding detail to the backs
Nightsky - I was interested in persuing this style but sort of trailed off hoping to get a crucible furnace to make them larger and more intersting
OnionSkin - This was basically my Kaleidoscope style which I made mainly for my glass Scopes
Patch - Peewees, some homage marbles
Dichro peewees - Made these at the request Of B Cohen possibly for rings, but just could not get them accurately sized
Sulphide - I had been making very small sulphides for a few years claiming the worlds smallest sulphides. Ray Laubs came into the marble world and was making a much better job of it so I sort of trailed off
Vortex flowers - my flowers were delevoped out of trying to put something interesting into the center of a vortex, I kept trying, most of these were development and practice.
Whitecore - Another poorly concieved color study of what was supposed to be 100 marbles. I lost interested though improvements of technique in other areas
Wirepull - I wanted to make a wirepull and did, it was great
2001 and earlier, i did not track or keep a work diary of my specific marbles. There just were not vert many the following are estimates
2001 - 200-300 total sold some given away maybe another 100 any others not worth keeping were destroyed - I kept a few for myself The first year I started signing them
2000 - 100-200 sold plus 50 - 100 given away the rest destroyed - I kept a few for myself - unsigned I did sign a few of the larger one upon request
1999 - 50-100 sold 50-100 given away, the rest destroyed, kept a few. - unsigned
1998 - any sold were in Kscopes , not more than a few dozen, I kept a few but destroyed most of them
1997 - Marbles were purely for pleasure but were un-annealed and I never sold any, I kept a few, but most I threw out.
1996 - Same as 1997
