The Alphabet Marble Project 2005
The Alphabet Marble Project was something I decided to join from a sort of contest on one of the Marble collecting forums
I picked the letter G
There were a few ideas I had on the subject and I wanted to persue them all so I spent some time on it each day for several weeks.
My initial idea was to have sort of wispy blown in the wind letters, here was my first attempt

Here is my second - I added to the size by adding another layer

This was not complex enough for me so I made 2 more attempts at this style. Adding more layers of letters and also reversing the script halfway through

I had taken that about as far as I wanted to by hand writing the letters and wanted something a little daintier. I spent several hours pulling murinni can letters to do the same concept but was not having much luck making it work. With more practice I think it could be done, but there was a deadline on this contest so I put this aside for furthur study.
For my next plan I wanted to play with vortexes to see if I could come up with a way to do them like no one else has tried. My first was a vortex with a hol in the bottom that could show some of my letter canes. Here is one that sort of turned out. In hand you can really see the G at the bottom but photography is not one of my strong skills

Next I tried a vortex with some of my foil tornado action it also had a hole in the bottom, it lights up nicely if you shine a light through it.

Next I tried Using one of my murinni letter cane pieces in the marble, this one had a little too much foil to see the vortex

So I tried again with less foil and decorated the backside in G's, This one is my favorite but still, there is a lot of vortex marbles out there

My Last idea was to somehow get G's into one of my flowers, and after many sad attempts I succeded, you can see the G's on the inside of the inner petal. This is the Marble I sent in to the contest. After this I was losing interest in the alphabet project but I had a great time doing it. It led me to try new things and led me to a new style of Marble that still needs alot of investigating.
