More About Pavliscak Studios

Pavliscak Studios began as the Wood and Glass Company of Madison Wi in 1994. There was a little store frontage building That George rented to be his studio, It progressed from there to a stained glass supply shop, where george taught lesson and did custom and expressive work. In 1999 George closed his shop and built a studio in The Back Yard of his Home which Happened to be in downtown Blue Mounds WI. It was at this point that the name was changed to Pavliscak Studios, and George took the opportunity of having his own studio to slow down and raised his 2 sons for a few years.

George Continues to attend several of the largest Marbles shows each year as well as several art fairs throughout the Midwest, and plans to gear back up to full time as his children enter school.

About George

George first became interested in glass as a child, watching Glass Blowers at Henry Ford Village in Michigan and Cedar Point in Ohio. As a teen he learned the Basics of Stained glass from his father who had picked it up as a hobby. After Moving from the Detroit Michigan Area to Madison Wi, George began making his items for fun and self fulfillment. After his home began to fill up with these things a friend suggested street vending in Downtown Madison, as well as the farmers market. After being a successful street vendor for several years, George quit his regular job and opened his studio. It was a shakey start but then bloomed to the point where George had several assistants working with him in the shop on a host of many and varied projects.

In 1998 with the arrival of his first Son, Nikolai, George Planned to close the store and build a Studio behind his house. This was for several reasons, first, Barbara, George's wife's, career would have been set back if she had stayed home to raise kids, and both felt strongly, that there is no reason to have children if you are not prepared to raise them yourself. By building the Studio behind the house George was able to watch the kids during the day and work as his time was more free in the evenings. George Often Jokes that he built most of his studio during Niko's naps. The studio was in operation by 1999, and in Dec of 2000, Barb and George Welcomed their 2nd family addition Alexander. Watching kids turned out to be quite a bit more than George Bargianed for, thus, his work was limited during the next few years. Which brings us to the second reason George thought to close his store in Madison, He wanted to go from a store, with employees and all that goes with that, back to a one man studio. No store hours to keep, and the time to focus on improving himself and his work.

In 1996 George Began Torchworking as a diversion from larger glass projects and in 1998 began to focus on it more making beads and marbles. He continues to strive to improve his techniques, and views himself of a student of glass.
